Accept: "Balls to the Wall"; Expanded Edition 2CD Out In May
Hear No Evil Records/Cherry Red Records has announced a May 27th European/28th North American release date for the Expanded Edition of Accept's 1983 breakthrough album, "Balls To The Wall".
Controversial at the time for its cover and some of the album’s themes, it was also their greatest commercial success, reaching number 75 in the US Billboard Hot 100. "Balls To The Wall" received gold status in the US, partly off the back of the heavy rotation the title track’s video received on MTV.
The album is now backed by the bonus CD "Staying A Life: Live In Japan 1985", a live album recorded at the Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan on September 18th, 1985. As well as storming live versions of key tracks from "Balls To The Wall", it features many Accept classics including "Breaker", "Princess Of The Dawn", "Restless And Wild", "Son Of A Bitch" and "Fast As A Shark". An expanded booklet features new liner notes from Classic Rock and Metal Hammer’s Malcolm Dome, commissioned for this release.

AC/DC: New Cliff Williams Video Interview Posted
David
"Gus" Griesinger of BackstageAxxess.com conducted
an interview with AC/DC bassist Cliff
Williams at
this year's NAMM show. You can now watch the chat below.
On when fans can expect a follow-up to 2008's "Black Ice":
Cliff: "[There is] nothing in the works right now. We're still getting over the last tour, so we're just hanging out and doing stuff. The guys are writing material and when they've got some stuff together, they'll give us a holler."
On the AC/DC songwriting process:
Cliff: "[Angus and Malcolm] get a bunch of ideas together - some are more together than others - and then we'll all hit the studio or a little rehearsal room and we'll kick it around with a producer. And then we get in a studio and record, and that's kind of how it runs. The guys, I'm sure, are putting their time in [writing material for the new album] - Malcolm and Angus - but they're not ready for [the rest of the band to get involved] yet."

Black Sabbath: New Ozzy Osbourne Interview Posted
Scott
McLennan of
Australia's Rip
It Up recently
conducted an interview with Ozzy
Osbourne. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On going vegan in 2012:
Ozzy: "I tried it, but I didn't last more than a week or two. I'm eating more meat now than ever! The only meat I haven't touched is the horse they're eating over here. I'll eat anything..."
"I'll tell you what I really missed - meat! How can the guy who bit the head off several creatures suddenly turn full circle and now live on vegetables? That doesn't sound right. I was Satan last week, now I'm on some fucking do-it-yourself gardening experience. These days I'm on a very low-carb, high-protein diet and I've dropped 30 pounds and I exercise like a freak. I'm 65 this year. God only knows how I got that far - I should have been dead a thousand times."
On working with producer Rick Rubin on Black Sabbath's first studio album with Ozzy since 1978's "Never Say Die!":
Ozzy: "Every time I've seen him for the past 15 or 20 years, Rick Rubin's always said to me that if Sabbath ever got back together, he wanted to produce us. Before we went into the studio, people were telling us that he's always got five things going on at the same time, so he'll be in there one day and then you won't see him for three weeks. All I can say is that whenever I was in the studio, he was there. Rick Rubin is the producer and he knows what he's doing. If this is anywhere near as successful as the Adele album [Rubin co-produced], I'll be happy!"
On the possibility of Rubin sorting out an Ozzy-and-Adele collaboration:
Ozzy: "I'd die a happy man, I think she's fucking great. She's not fucking botox-faced, she's a normal, healthy girl who speaks in her native accent."
On Tony Iommi's lymphoma diagnosis:
Ozzy: "Tony's fine, but he can only go out on the road for six weeks at a time as he has to have infusions or some shit for his immune system. I was amazed that during his chemotherapy he was still writing songs. My heart goes out to him, because when Sharon had cancer a few years back, she was so sick from chemotherapy she could barely get out of bed. It's like having a football kick to the nuts. The chemotherapy is worse than the cancer - Sharon was like 'The Exorcist', having seizures all the time. Tony is doing really well, though."
On never forgetting his poverty-stricken West Midlands upbringing:
Ozzy: "You're not going to believe it, but if I'm passing I frequently go back to my old house and sit on the doorstep for half an hour in the middle of the night. I'll be going from Liverpool down the M6 and I'll pull off in Aston for the memories. I can remember sitting on that step when I was a kid wondering what I'd be when I was a man. It's all Pakistanis living there now."

"We
never used to do much more than just turn up at the studio, plug in our amps
and play. We were literally a garage band back then. We disliked all the
discipline of studios and all the engineers and all that, so we ended up
recording bars and garages in the early days. And soBob really brought us
back around into the 21st century. We're not normally very good at planning.
The band turns up a rehearsal with no songs that's always been now we are. We
just jam and by about the third or fourth day, we start to have ideas for songs
and start developing from there. Back then and today, just like that." –

Whitesnake: David Coverdale Talks New Album Projects In New Interview
Niclas
Müller-Hansen of Sweden's Metalshrine recently conducted an
interview with David Coverdale. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow
below.
Metalshrine: As I understand it, there's two live albums coming out, "Live In Japan" and "Live In Britain". Why two?
David Coverdale: Because they're both extremely different. We didn't plan the Japanese project. You know, the Japanese tour was booked and we were invited to headline at Loud Park and I hadn't headlined a Japanese music festival since 1984, so that was a very exciting premise for me. They made a very generous offer and then asked if they could film three songs for a TV special. We said OK and my co-producers, Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre, and I, mixed the three songs and obviously watching the video and going crazy. It looked fantastic and we had them send over the rest of the footage and thought, "This could be a fabulous follow-up to 'Still Of The Night'.". And where we are now, featuring new songs for the first time. The record company we work with, Frontiers, they were absolutely positive in their response, so we added that to the mix. What we're doing with the"Made In Britain" CD, is giving it a different sonic identity. The CD from"Made In Japan" is a soundtrack and the bonus stuff features behind-the-scenes, soundcheck stuff we recorded in different Japanese venues. Having fun with some our songs, like trying an unplugged version of "Good To Be Bad" and "Tell Me How" from the "Forevermore" album. Stuff that people normally don't get to hear. For the second CD, it's "Whitesnake the world record." We're taking songs from all over different cities, like Oslo and there might be a Sweden Rock. I'm not sure if we legally can do that. Stuff from Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Rio. It's two entirely different projects, and for the end of the year, we're hoping to achieve a limited-edition box set for Christmas, called "Forevermore - The Complete Collection", which will have everything "Forevermore"-related plus outtakes, alternate mixes, acoustic versions of songs, behind-the-scenes footage. Really cool stuff. It's fascinating, Niclas, because "Forevermore" is an extraordinary jewel in the Whitesnake catalog. It still got legs, as they say. It's still selling significant records, and now I'm involved in a daily exercise called Twitter. A lot of people didn't know Whitesnake was still going because a lot of people still don't search the Internet or listen to music and they feel they've grown out of music, but then discovering that we're still playing and not only that, but flourishing as a positive force. It's amazing, so people are checking out "Good To Be Bad" and "Forevermore" since the first of January. Everything just keeps igniting the next wave of enthusiasm for Whitesnake, which is a great feeling.

Europe: To Record 10th Album in Early 2014
Joey
Tempest has issued the following update:
"Thought I'd write you a little note about whats going on in the Europe camp at the moment.
"We are having little break after the amazing 'Bag Of Bones' adventures last year. We are, however, working on ideas and new items to celebrate our 30th anniversary, together with you guys. So please keep visiting this site. All shall be revealed soon.
"I'm currently spending some time in London with my family and at the same time upgrading my studio. I've got some ideas I'm dying to try out for our next album. The rest of the guys are in Stockholm. Norum is preparing for his tour with his little sister Tone. I think it's a great idea! As long as I have known them both, they have been so involved and passionate about music. I don't believe they have ever performed together like this, so it's really exclusive! Meeting them both when I was around 14 years old, I immediately wanted to start a band with John.
"I know Levén has got some great new song ideas lined up. Mic always writes and I hope he's got something as cool as the riff for 'Firebox' for me to sink my teeth into. He is such a musical guy! And will this be the album when Mr. Haugland contributes even more as a writer? That would be so cool! Always when we're in pre-production or in the studio he's got the greatest ideas for arrangements and so forth. The guy is like dynamite!
"We're all looking forward to getting back on the road in May, when we also will be rehearsing for the mega Sweden Rock Festival! Two-and-a-half-hour-long show with exclusive guests! Songs from all of our albums, with a few we haven't played in ages! This will truly be a special night! On the road this year we'll also be teaming up with our friends in Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Journey and many others. We're also interested in checking out Black Star Riders this summer; they will be on the same bill as us on a couple of festivals.
"Download and Hellfest this year! How cool is that?! Mind you, we'd better be 'camping' a few days before the gig at Download this year, so we don't miss it : ) Back to Spain as well... we missed you guys on the 'Bag Of Bones' tour last year!
"We'll be touring festivals all of 2013 and the winter will be spent writing music and doing sessions together to find the 'vibe' for the next record. We'll be going into the studio again beginning of 2014 to record Europe No. 10. Hey! It's a big deal for us! Ten albums. WOW!
"Just want to take this opportunity to thank you all for you incredible support over the years. You have really helped us build this band up again. These days we are yet again a force to be reckoned with! I've always said: You guys keep us in the best job in the world!"

"Robert Plant: A Life"; Biography Coming In October 2013 (US In January 2014)
According
to USA Today, It Books has acquired
rights to a biography of Robert Plant, to be published in the U.K. in
October 2013, and appear in the U.S. in January 2014.
"Robert Plant: A Life" is written by former Q and Kerrang! editor Paul Rees, and is based on in-depth interviews with those closest to to the Led Zeppelin frontman as well as access to the singer himself. It will follow Plant's career from early folk gigs in the 1960s in the Black Country, to his globe-spanning success with rock pioneers Led Zeppelin, as well as his recent Grammy-winning career working alongside bluegrass singer Alison Krauss.
Natalie Jerome at Harper Non-Fiction UK said: "Robert Plant's stature as one of the greatest frontmen of all time is without question and as fans of his music from Led Zeppelin to present, we have long wanted to publish his story. This book is as close to Plant telling his own story in his own words as we've seen or heard to date.
"Paul's close professional relationship with Robert is going to make for a revealing read and we can't wait to bring one of the greatest untold rock n' roll stories to the world."
Robert Plant is one of the few genuine living rock legends. Frontman of Led Zeppelin , musical innovator and seller of millions of records, Plant has been a profound influence on music, culture and modern history for over 40 years. Volumes have been written on the Zeppelin story, but Plant's tale has barely been told - until now.
Vividly written and meticulously researched by acclaimed music writer Paul Rees, "Robert Plant: A Life" is an indispensible part of any music bookshelf.
For more than a decade, Robert Plant led one of the biggest and most successful rock bands of all time: Led Zeppelin . The sheer scale of their success is extraordinary: in the U.S. alone they sold 70 million records, a figure surpassed only by The Beatles, while "Stairway To Heaven", the band's most recognizable song, has been played more times on American radio than any other track.
But Plant's legacy stretches far beyond the band. Here Paul Rees, whose professional relationship with Plant spans decades, brings the whole picture into focus for the first time - from the forces that shaped him as a boy in the Black Country to the ravaging highs and lows of the Zeppelin years; from his relationship with Jimmy Page and John Bonham to the solo career that today, at the age of 64, sees him producing some of the most acclaimed work of his career.
Told with tenacity, emotion and the spark of brilliance that befits such an enigmatic frontman, this is the definitive story of a man of incredible talent, remarkable courage and extraordinary conviction.

Black Sabbath: Snippets Of New Music Posted Online; Rick Rubin on Producing Black Sabbath's New Album, "13"
You can hear the first snippets of new Black Sabbath music in the YouTube clip below. In this clip producer Rick Rubin and the band members talk about the recordings of "13":
Rainbow: Live In Munich 1977; 2CD/DVD/LP Out In April
On April 30, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Rainbow:
Live In Munich 1977 on 2CD, DVD, and 2LP.
Captured during the band’s 1977 European tour, Live In Munich is the only full live concert ever filmed with the classic Ritchie Blackmore/Ronnie James Dio/Cozy Powell classic line-up. With newly remastered sound, this is also the first time this complete concert is available on vinyl.
Rainbow was the brainchild of legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, created in 1975 after his departure from Deep Purple. A string of hit albums ignited immediate success, which persevered until 1983, when Blackmore disbanded the group (and re-joined Deep Purple). Featuring the line-up of Blackmore, Cozy Powell (drums), Bob Daisley (bass), David Stone (keyboards), and premiere Rock and Roll vocalist Ronnie James Dio, the excitement in the air during this night was electric. This might be due, in part, to Blackmore’s late arrival to Munich just before the concert, after being smuggled out of Austria after trouble with the police at a gig two nights earlier. This seemed to inspire both the band and the audience to create a truly remarkable gig.
The DVD includes original promo videos for "Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll", "Gates Of Babylon" and "L.A. Connection", a photo gallery, slideshow with audio commentary, interviews, and the Rainbow Over Texas ‘76 feature, which includes additional interviews and performance footage. Truly, Live In Munich 1977 is a brilliant showcase of the primal electricity of Rainbow.

Deep Purple: "All the Time in the World"; Official Lyric Video Posted; "Hell to Pay" Audio Available
The two brand new Deep Purple songs "Hell to Pay" and "All the Time in the World" premiered on radio on March 11. Watch the official lyric video for "All the Time in the World" below:
Black Sabbath: "Tony's The Kind Of Bloke That Doesn't Want To Let Us Down," Says Geezer Butler In New Interview
"Tony's
the kind of bloke that doesn't want to let us down," Geezer Butler recently told
Guitar World. "He wouldn't let his illness interfere with this
album. He wanted to get it done."
After much fan speculation regarding Ward's replacement, it was finally revealed this January that Brad Wilk - best known for his work with Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave - had been brought in by Rubin to handle the album's drum duties.
"We'd have loved to have Bill on the album," Butler said. "But suddenly something came up. I went to Hawaii when Tony started his treatment, and when l came back, Bill wasn't in the band anymore."
"The only sad thing is that Bill couldn't keep it together," Osbourne told Revolver magazine. "It would have been great to have Bill with us. I've never understood the business side of this. I don't choose to go there. My wife does that for me, and Geezer's wife is his manager, and Tony's got his manager. So, I keep my nose out of it. But they couldn't come to an agreement with him. I mean, I still love him, and I wish him well, but…"
Although the band was skeptical at first about enlisting Wilk to lay down the drum tracks on "13", he proved up to the task.
"I was really surprised," Butler told Guitar World. "He had that Bill Ward kind of jazzy swing feel, rather than heavy metal bashing."

David Lee Roth Guests "Joe Rogan Experience" Podcast; Video Available
On the
latest episode of the "Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, host Joe
Rogan and Brian Redban are joined by David Lee Roth. They
discuss a number of topics, including nutrition, smoking, Dave's famous
jumpkicks, songwriting and the Van Halen reunion. You can
watch the two-hour-and-40-minute podcast below.
David Lee Roth recently gave a lengthly interview to Rolling Stone and says he wants co-founding bassist Michael Anthony back in Van Halen - among other things. Apart from the Sydney appearance and a trio of Japanese shows in June, the band remains in a state of limbo. Last summer, Van Halen backed out of 31 North American dates, citing exhaustion, and then Eddie Van Halen was sidelined for four-to-six months after undergoing surgery for the inflammatory intestinal affliction diverticulitis.

Jake E. Lee's Red Dragon Cartel; New Photos
According
to "Tales From The Stage Volume 1" author Michael
Toney, Jake E. Lee has set Jake E. Lee's Red Dragon
Cartel as the name of his new project, obviously referencing the axeman's
Japanese roots. The group features Ronnie Mancuso (Beggars & Thieves)
on bass and Jonas Fairley (Black Betty) on drums. The lead vocalist
position is almost solidified, but details are still being worked out. The only
information that has thus far been provided is that he hails from Canada, and
certain logistics need to be ironed out prior to a formal announcement.
In the process of recording his new album at Las Vegas' The Hideout Studios - owned and operated by Kevin Churko - Lee's first new release will feature a combination of legendary rock artists and some of the biggest names of new metal. Already recorded are guest appearances by Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Paul Di'Anno and Maria Brink (In This Moment), with many other big names attached to the project.
Toney says: "The two new tracks that I have heard are very impressive, and are incredibly fresh sounding - but not really in the same family as [Jake's] work with Badlands or Ozzy. It's still hard rock, but perhaps a bit more melodic."
