Steve Perry: Recording New Solo Album; One Is A Beatles Cover

Former Journey frontman Steve Perry is going to be recording new music soon, but it won’t be with his old bandmates. The singer says he’s working on a solo album, but it’s been a challenging process since he’s been out of the music business for so long.

Perry tells the Associated Press that he’s recorded three cover songs and played them for a few close friends. One is a Beatles tune, but he wouldn’t offer any clue as to which one, nor would he hint at what the other two covers are. The famously bashful singer went on to further crush any roseate thoughts of Journey reuniting.

“We have severely, emotionally gone our separate ways,” he said. Perry did the interview to promote Tuesday’s release (Nov. 1st) of Journey’s "Greatest Hits Vol. 2" and the remastered version of his 1984 solo album "Street Talk".

While all but a nail or two has been put in the reunion tour coffin, the band’s music lives on through radio and television. Recently ‘Don’t Stop Believin” was used on ‘Glee.’ “It’s very shocking because now I’m getting it for seven, eight, nine 10-year-olds coming up to me, and they love that song and they’ve made it their song,” Perry said. “It’s just amazing to me.”

Perry admits he’s been asked to appear on the hit Fox show as well as ‘American Idol,’ but says it’s doubtful he’d ever appear on them, saying that he is not a “front-camera guy.”

Ian Gillan Band: Live At The Rainbow 1977; Full Concert

"What is presented on this DVD is an important chapter of an essential British Rock performer, whose successes have now spanned four decade." - Ray Fenwick, Guitar.

Guitarist Ray Fenwick recalls: "Touring with The Ian Gillan Band in the 70s was a wild affair, both on and off stage. In the best traditions of Rock n Roll we courted our fair share of controversy, but come showtime we turned into a tight professional outfit, performing our own unique brand of rock music. It was on 14th May 1977, in front of a full house at The Rainbow, Theatre, London. We were promoting the «Clear Air Turbulence» album. Chris Blackwell the label owner was there that night checking out his investment. What is presented on this DVD is an important chapter of an essential British Rock performer, whose successes have now spanned four decades."

Glenn Hughes: Talks Autobiography In New Video Interview

The Reuters news agency has released an interview with rock legend Glenn Hughes in support of his new autobiography, «Deep Purple And Beyond: Scenes From The Life Of A Rock Star». Check it out below, go to this location for the transcrip.

Hughes recently announced his first UK solo acoustic tour featuring incredible acoustic interpretations of songs from his remarkable musical career. This is bound to enthral not only hardcore fans but anyone with even a passing interest in the life and times of a modern day rock legend.

Dates include:

November
14 - Leicester Square Theatre - London, UK
15 - Glee Club - Birmingham, UK
16 - Glee Club - Cardiff (Wales), UK
20 - Glee Club - Nottingham, UK
22 - Band On The Wall - Manchester, UK

According to a press release, "Glenn Hughes is a true original. No other rock musician has carved such a distinctive style blending the finest elements of hard rock, soul and funk. That astonishing voice is Hughes‚ calling card. He's known as a singer's singer. Stevie Wonder once called Hughes his favourite white singer.

Hughes, a native of Cannock, England, absorbed all kinds of influences, including early British hard rock, The Beatles and, most importantly, American soul and R&B. The sleek Motown sound from Detroit and the gritty Stax/Volt sound from Memphis left their mark on him.

The first important band Hughes was a member of that achieved notable success was Trapeze. He later joined trailblazing Deep Purple with Ritchie Blackmore and co. In the halcyon days, Purple headlined at the famous California Jam in front of 250,000 and toured the world on their own Boeing jet plane, «The Starship». All of this was accompanied by cocaine psychosis, crack addiction and other excesses, before Hughes survived a clean-up-or-die crisis, and embarked on a reinvigorated solo career enriched by a survivor‚s wisdom.
One of the most important collaborations in Hughes‚ career was when he began working with Black Sabbath and Tony Iommi on his first solo album «Seventh Star». Glenn's latest album, "First Underground Nuclear Kitchen", is the latest chapter in an extraordinary musical evolution, and is quite possibly the most compelling and positive musical statement in a distinguished career.

2010 saw Glenn recording and touring in a new supergroup project, Black Country Communion with guitar star Joe Bonamassa, keys player Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) and drummer Jason Bonham, son of the late Led Zeppelin legend John Bonham. The band released their debut album produced by Kevin Shirley.

Metallica Rocks Gurgaon, India (Video)

After "serious technical difficulties" led to the cancelation of Friday's (October 28th) planned performance in Gurgaon (a suburb of Delhi), Metallica gave its first-ever live performance in India earlier tonight (Sunday, October 30th), kicking off the show at around 8:00 p.m. local time with "Creeping Death", "For Whom The Bell Tolls" and "Fuel".

The organizers of the Vladivar Rock 'N India took caution to ensure that the concert passed off without any glitch. More than 1,000 police personnel were deployed on security duty, according to IBN Live.

About 22,000 tickets were sold for tonight's show, according to organisers.

A short clip of Metallica's performance can be seen on
 NDTV.com.

The show in Gurgaon was canceled two hours before Metallica was supposed to perform, resulting in a sharp increase in online booking for tickets to the Bangalore concert.

Four officials from the event management company, DNA Entertainment Network, which organized the Metallica performances in India, were sent to six days of police custody on early Saturday on charges of cheating and breach of trust.

Alice Cooper: Wants To Erect Statue In Memory Of Famous Chicken Incident In Toronto

Alice Cooper, Toronto 1969

According to Bang Showbiz, Alice Cooper wants to erect a statue to the unknown chicken which kick started his career.

The singer and his theatrical shock rock band hit the headlines on September 13th, 1969 when their audience at a show in Canada tore the live bird to pieces, and Alice feels proper tribute should be paid to the animal, whose bloodied body was thrown back at the group.

He said: "Here's the kicker. The people in the first five rows were all in wheelchairs. They didn't like the idea that the chicken could walk - that's what flipped into my mind.

"And this was the Toronto 'Peace' Festival! I am seriously thinking of erecting a statue there; Monument to the Unknown Chicken. The noble bird that lost its life in the service of rock and roll and gave Alice Cooper a career."

Aerosmith: New Joe Perry Video Interview Posted Online

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry was recently interviewed for the "13 Hrs." show on Peru's Canal N. Perry discussed the setlist and requests made by fans during Aerosmith's current South American tour. You can now watch the report below.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler spoke with the "Today" show'sMatt Lauer on Thursday morning (October 27th), seeking to reassure fans that his face-smashing fall in the shower in his Paraguay hotel room on Tuesday (October 25th) was an accident and not the result of Tyler using drugs again. Tyler, speaking via phone from the band's next tour stop in Argentina, told Lauer, "Being in the program, it's something we have to expect. I went public with my problems only to address them head on. You know, people thinking that is natural and normal."

Tyler added that it "bothers me a little" that the public might automatically assume he fell off the wagon, but admitted, "It's something I have to deal with the rest of my life."

The singer, who has been mostly clean since the mid-Eighties but who did check into rehab in late 2009 to deal with a painkiller addiction, said that the fact that he was on the phone with Lauer was proof that he wasn't strung out again.

He explained, "We flew last night from Paraguay after that incident and we're in Argentina for two hours . . . anyone who knows anyone who uses substances wouldn't be up at this hour having a talk with Matt Lauer and the rest of America." He insisted to Lauer that he was clean and sober.

Tyler became dizzy due to gastrointestinal problems and slipped in the shower in his hotel room in the city of Asuncion, just hours before the band was scheduled to perform, cutting his face and knocking out two teeth.

The dentist who treated the 63-year-old singer told local media that Tyler had to get two dental implants and was "friendly and humble."

Aerosmith rescheduled the concert for the next night (Wednesday, October 26th) as the band continued its South American jaunt. Tyler toldLauer, "Short of having my legs taken off, people are going to expect me on stage no matter what . . . Not only did I break my face, but we broke a house record, so life is beautiful, Matt."

Metallica: Organizers Arrested For Cheating After Concert In Gurgaon Is Canceled (7 Videos)

According to NDTV, the organizers of Metallica's concerts in India have been arrested after the band's show scheduled for Friday evening in Gurgaon (a suburb of Delhi) was canceled. The operational head of DNA Entertainment Network, Rajesh Chandwani, and his team members - Umesh, Ashok Singh and Savio Faleio - were charged with cheating people and breach of trust under section 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code, Station House Officer Jagdish Prasad said.

The police allege that the organizers oversold Friday's concert beyond its 25,000 capacity at the Leisure Valley Park in Gurgaon's Sector 29 and that the authorities were never informed before the cancelation was announced.

The organizers have said all ticket holders will be refunded. They said full-page advertisements on refunds will be put out in the next 24 hours explaining all the details.
"As soon as the organizers announced that the show has been postponed, the crowd went berserk... people started pushing each other, broke barricades, started shouting and throwing water bottles," Pankaj Kaushik, who waited for three hours for the show to begin, told The Economic Times.

The announcement of the concert's postponement was met with anger, apparently in part because the four members of Metallica were taking part in a press conference at the time (see video below). Fans rushed the stage, damaged equipment and some even attempted to set fire to banners. Most of the fans, however, stayed calm and exited the venue when asked.

A number of fans - including Kapel Vahi and John Thangaraj - were reportedly sent confirmation emails stating that tickets would be delivered to them by October 25th which did not happen. Thangaraj told Mumbai Mirror, "Kapel and I bought our tickets on October 14th. The company reverted with a confirmation email. According to the email, we were supposed to receive our tickets latest by October 25th. After the deadline, we mailed, called all the numbers listed on the website. We did not get any reply. We then read on the web site that if we did not receive the tickets, we could pick them up at the venue."

According to The Times Of India, Vahi, who flew down from Mumbai for the concert, waited in line at the ticket counter with Thangaraj for two hours, only to be told that his tickets had been dispatched to his home address. Thangaraj said, "We spoke to a man, who said his name wasRajesh and that he was the owner of DNA Network. When we told him about what had happened and that we would take legal action, he called us frauds and threatened to have us arrested."

Metallica is scheduled to perform in the southern Indian city of Bangalore on Sunday.

Steve Perry: New In Depth Interview Posted Online

MelodicRock.com teamed up with original Journey vocalist Steve Perry for an interview. Read excerpts below:

The legendary voice of Journey - Steve Perry has been atop my "want list" for interviews since I first started this site in late 1996. I've been fortunate to talk to all other members along the way, but still no Steve. The elusive Steve Perry interview remained a dream. Until this week. I hope you enjoy the read and if you take one thing from this interview - Steve talked and sounded like he was in a very good place. It was a great pleasure and a thrill to talk to him and have him open up about some tough subjects. Not only is he a rock icon and a personal favourite of an army of fans, but he's also one of my personal favourite singers of all time. And dare I say, one of (if not the) very best melodic rock vocalist ever.

I'm very thankful to Steve for extending out interview time and to Sony Music and Lora @ FanAsylum for setting this interview up for me...after years of nagging!
Some Interview Highlights:
Steve on first joining Journey:

"When it started for me it was around 1978 when I joined the band. That's when I got my first break to get into the music business and I got signed to Columbia Records. And it was a dream come true back in those days to get a record deal. It was the sweetest thing you could ever have, is to be signed…next to the most horrific day of your life which would be to get dropped. So many of my friends did get dropped because they didn't sell records. I looked at it as if every time I had the opportunity to make a record – which the first was Infinity, with Journey – was this magical blessing that, I finally am in the record business and I get to make a record. But, I did not believe in my heart there would be a second one. I knew I had to love doing it, and if I could make any money I should save some money because I didn't trust there to be a second one."
And on the rest of the band adjusting to him:

"They have to deal with this stepson that is something that they like but they wish they could have done it their way, and why wouldn't they? Why wouldn't they have wished that they could be successful without having a lead singer? Well then the label says “We want you to have a singer” and then they went, “Well, I don't know, I don't know.” So, all of the sudden, here comes me, and I think it was a real challenge for all of us to find out what that really meant. They had to let go of doing it their way. I was bringing in ideas; they were growing. But, I will tell you this…being the singer in that environment with them as we were growing together on the Infinity record brought a certain kind of vocal strength out of me that the band required it have. Otherwise, I do not know if I would have ever found that anywhere else. And I think that at some level I did the same thing for them."
Steve on that brutal tour schedule:

"I was like a pitbull. I still have tons of energy. My girlfriend tells me all the time, “You're the most energetic person I've ever met.” But when I was younger, I was on fire. And, so I think that back in the day when the voice was fresh and young and I had that much energy, I kept up with that scheduled pretty good. Though it was difficult at times, I was able to keep up with it. You betcha. Everybody went through the same commitment because we were all together far away from everything together, out there. But we loved it! Don't you understand that?"
Steve on Columbia dealing with his solo record:

"They were scared to death. They thought that I was going to spend a lot of money and they weren't sure what I was going to do. But you know, I ended up doing it relatively inexpensively and quickly because I had great musicians. There were no computers back then. Everything you're hearing on the Street Talk record is absolutely performed in the studio and captured on a piece of tape. I mean if you threw hamburgers in the studio, you would get hamburgers on tape you know? So, there was not a computer to be found, no auto tuner existed. Nothing of today's era existed during '84-'85. So, that is real musicians like Larry Londin on drums, Bobby Glaub on bass, Craig Kramph on drums, Michael Landau on guitar…"
And on disappearing from the public eye:

"I went away. I did. I've been gone. I just went away and tried to figure out how to live life on life's terms and just come off the ride. Just put my feet on the ground. I think that has been the challenge and also to allow myself, Andrew, to start dreaming again, because the dreaming is where the music is. But the trick of the dreamer is keeping yourself from the blues..."
On Journey moving on without him:

"At the time, I fuckin hated it! I hated them for doing it; I hated them for giving me an ultimatum. But now I can look back with clear eyes, you know. I can't blame them; they just wanted to get going. I was going to go to surgery, and I did. But not on their timetable. So I did that. I had my hip replacement and the rest is history. They've gone on and I'm where I'm at. Life had showed up and there was a fork in the road between us. So, we went separate ways dare I say, not making a joke. And that's okay. Now, I look back at it as the most painful time of my life. But you know what? They need to love their lives. They love performing out there all the time. The fans love the songs we wrote."
All that and more in the new Feature Interview:

Brian Johnson: To Embark On "Rockers And Rollers: A Full-Throttle" Tour In February 2012

AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson will embark on a short tour in February 2012 during which he will recount stories from his recently released book, "Rockers And Rollers: A Full-Throttle Memoir". Accompanying Brian on stage will be his two good friends from Skid Row, Rachel Bolan (bass) and Scotti Hill (guitar). The lighting and multimedia presentations that will illustrate the stories will be designed by Cosmo Wilson, who worked with Brian on the recent record-breaking AC/DC world tour.

The dates are as follows:

Feb. 07 - Knoxville, TN @ Bijou Theatre
Feb. 08 - Atlanta. GA @ Center Stage Theatre
Feb. 10 - Raleigh, NC @ Lincoln Theatre
Feb. 11 - Richmond, VA @ The National
Feb. 13 - Glenside, PA @ Keswick Theatre
Feb. 15 - Millvale, PA @ Small’s Funhouse
Feb. 16 - Covington, KY @ Small's Funhouse
Feb. 18 - Indianapolis, IN @ Egyptian Room at ONC
Feb. 21 - Madison, WI @ Overture Center
Feb. 22 - Milwaukee, WI @ Pabst Theater

Johnson recently came under fire from Christian leaders after he slammed religion as "a waste of time" in an interview withPopEater.com. Although he sang in a church choir when he was a young boy, Johnson said, "I don't believe in religion, let's put it that way. I believe all religions are bad. I think they're a waste of time. Jesus was a clever man. He wasn't the son of God. We all know that he was a very clever, wonderful man and he said, 'Church is in here, meaning you are your own church.'"

As for why he sang in the choir, Johnson said, "Was it religion? No, it was two shillings and sixpence a week!"

According to Christian Today, Pastor Drew Dixon of New Covenant Baptist Church in Albertville, Alabama, said, "Viewing Jesus this way is not an option. C.S. Lewis said you must view Jesus as liar, lunatic or Lord. There aren't any other options. You can't say Jesus was a clever man but not the Son of God because Jesus claimed to be the Son of God."

Allen Palmeri, associate editor of Baptist news journal Pathway, said, "(Jesus is) the author of Brian Johnson's musical talent. When one day he comes to the end of his showmanship on earth, he will have to face the fact that Jesus is the door to God the Father, who is there."

Johnson's views came up because he touches on them in "Rockers And Rollers: A Full-Throttle Memoir". The book is primarily about his love of cars, and Johnson told The Pulse Of Radio he has no desire to write a real autobiography. "I hate autobiographies," he said. "I think they're boring and rotten and I'm not interested. This was just short stories that would be funny and positive and wasn't a tell-all book. I don't like them either, 'cause it's usually just some bitter old git who wants to get his own back at everybody, you know (laughs)."

AC/DC has hinted that the band may hit the road in 2013 to celebrate their 40th anniversary, with Johnson saying that the group is scheduled to get together soon for a meeting to discuss the possibility of an anniversary tour and album.

Aerosmith: Steven Tyler On The Shower Incident (Audio)

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler was interviewed on the "Today"show this morning (Thursday, October 27th) about the incident on Tuesday when he fell in his hotel bathroom in Paraguay, hitting his face and losing two teeth after he apparently became dizzy due to gastrointestinal problems.

When asked by Matt Lauer if he was "clean and sober," Tyler said, "That's not the issue."

"Being in the program, it's something we have to expect," the singer said of of speculation that he may have fallen off the wagon. "People thinking that is natural and normal. We flew last night from Paraguay after that incident and we're in Argentina for two hours. And anyone who knows anyone who uses substances wouldn't be up at this hour having a talk with Matt Lauer and the rest of America. It's nothing I don't understand. It makes me a little upset. But people think that."

"So you're clean and sober? That's not the issue?" Lauer asked.

"No, it's not the issue," said Tyler, who added he had some food poisoning and also received stitches above his eye.

"Short of having my legs taken off, people are going to expect me on stage no matter what," joked Tyler. "I went out on stage last night and I wore my sunglasses for the first song. I took them off and the crowd roared. It's all about playing to the people. We rocked out. Not only did I break my face, but we broke a house record, so life is beautiful, Matt."

You can watch video footage of Tyler's appearance on "Today" below.

Aerosmith: Steven Tyler Returns With Black Eye And Two Lost Teeth (Videos)

Aerosmith returned to the stage last night (October 26th) at the Jockey Club in Asuncion, Paraguay after singer Steven Tyler fell in his hotel bathroom, hitting his face and losing two teeth after he apparently became dizzy due to gastrointestinal problems forcing the cancellation of the concert on Tuesday (October 25th). Tyler appeared on stage with a black eye and had two new teeth implanted.

Lead guitarist Joe Perry tweeted: "Steven even played harp with his busted lip my mind was blown. He put on one of his best shows ever. Aerosmith rocks on. Gotta hand it to Steven for playing the show tonight considering how sick was from food poisoning the night before. He's amazing."

Glenn Hughes: Prepares To Deliver Solo Rock; New Solo Album Coming In 2012

Glenn Hughes will record his first solo album since 2007 for release in 2012, describing it as "The image of the Glenn Hughes on the Black Country Communion albums...the same Glenn that was in Deep Purple. The classic rock iconic Glenn that, let's be clear, the majority of the fans want."

Hughes was interviewed for I Heart Guitar Blog. Read the full interview here: iheartguitarblog.com/2011/10/glennhughes.html.

Excerpt: "People are going to read this and go 'Wow!' I'm thinking about doing a solo thing. I haven't really gone public and said it but you asked me the question and I told you I would tell you the truth. I'm really thinking about making a Glenn album early next year. It's been four years since I entered the studio for F.U.N.K, but my hat now has been very much thrown into the rock ring. What I will do, Peter, on the next Glenn album, is portray the image of the Glenn Hughes on the Black Country Communion albums. Because it's the same Glenn that was in Deep Purple, really. The classic rock iconic Glenn that, let's be clear, the majority of the fans want. The F.U.N.K. album was very well recorded and I love the songs, but that's for a cultured audience and a different kind of audience. It's more of a cult audience, if you will. But my audience now with BCC and a lot of my fans are rockers, man, so it's time to rock. So the next album, Peter, will be a rock record."

Thin Lizzy: "Live At The BBC" Box Set; All The Details; Track List

This incredible archive represents a great set of previously unreleased recordings in the Lizzy catalogue. The collection has been brought together by trawling the BBC archives, but also by inviting contributions from fans. The BBC had a habit of wiping tapes after they were broadcast which has meant that some of the Corporation’s output has been lost forever. However thanks to fans recording broadcasts at home a couple of gems have been reclaimed here for this set.

This collection brings together a raft of sessions and live recordings from throughout the band’s career. Included also is a DVD of the bands sought after appearances on Top of the Pops and the Old Grey Whistle Test a well as concerts from throughout the band’s career. This is a first for the band as these recordings have never been available in one place before. With comprehensive notes by Classic Rock’s Malcolm Dome who tells the story of the bands history at the BBC.
