Defining metal music is never easy, but for this all-time list, Gibson.com opted to leave bands like Led Zeppelin and Queen in the hard rock camp and concentrate on the heavier metal sounds – Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Metallica and the like. Gibson.com recently called upon its editors, writers and – most importantly – readers, to weigh in on the greatest metal songs of all time. After all the votes were tallied, we were left with the Top 50 Greatest Metal Songs. After revealing #50-41 and #40-31, we’re announcing another 10 songs today. Check back each day this week as Gibson.com unveils 10 more metal monsters, with the Top 10 coming on Friday.
No. 27. “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’,” Judas Priest
This fist-pumper appeared on Screaming for Vengeance in 1982 – a triumph of big guitars, leather jackets and shaggy hair-dos. Motivational metal? This track certainly is, proclaiming, “If you think I’ll sit around as the world goes by / You’re thinkin’ like a fool ’cause it’s a case of do or die.” Noteworthy: Pat Boone covered the song on his album of metal covers in 1997.
