The New York Dolls have added four U.K. dates and an appearance in Tokyo, Japan, to their much-anticipated reunion tour. In addition, the glam-punk legends will stage a second show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, appearing at the venerable venue on consecutive nights on March 16 and March 17. The U.K. performances will take place at the 02 Academy in Newcastle on March 27, the Club Academy in Manchester on March 29, and at the legendary Old Vic Tunnels in London on March 30 and March 31. The Tokyo show, slated for April 3, is part of that city’s Punkspring festival.
Meanwhile, frontman David Johansen recently spoke with Thequietus.com about the Dolls’ forthcoming album, "Dancing Backward in High Heels", and about his enduring working relationship with guitarist Sylvain Sylvain.
“Sylvain is like a conduit of music,” Johansen said. “He’s got this magical capacity to say ‘OK, now. Let’s make a song.’ And then Sylvain will pick up the guitar or play a keyboard or something and then, without any preconceived notion, just start to play and all of this music that was buried in his subconscious just comes out. And at the end of three minutes, hopefully you’ve recorded it, because it’ll be gone and he’ll be on to something else. He’s got this magical capacity to make these brilliant little pop songs.”
